There are some new GC features introduced in CLR 2.0 SP1.
- Latency modes
- GC collection mode on force collection
- STARTUP_TRIM_GC_COMMIT and gcTrimCommitOnLowMemory
Two of three were referred in Chris Lvon's WebLog.
- New In Orcas Part 1: What we’ve been doing
- New In Orcas Part 2: GC Collection Modes
- New In Orcas Part 3: GC Latency Modes
Basically this is good news to real time .NET applications such as XNA, but the desktop CLR and modorn CPUs have had enough high performance; the real showstopper is, I think, the performance of Xbox 360 CPU and Compact Framework GC algorithm.
